Once you unpack it, you’ll find the battery and the tank carefully placed in their foam cutouts, protected from the dangers of transport. This is important - batteries and tanks are pretty fragile so the last thing you’d want is wiggle room. Trust me, opening a box to find your tank glass in pieces is not fun!

As is the case with most things that come out of Smok’s workshop, you can’t really find a design fault with this kit. Both the battery and tank are machined to perfection, sitting flush on each other with no overhang or any other issues.

Because there are so little moving parts, nothing is jiggling, which is great. With MODs that have a lot of buttons or a display screen, that can be a bit of a problem - the more parts you have, the greater the chances that something will go wrong. Overall, once you assemble this kit you’ll notice that it hits the mark when it comes to size and aesthetics. It’s pretty to look at - simple yet elegant - and fits perfectly into the palm.

As for assembly, it’s pretty straightforward. The tank comes assembled but even if it didn’t, you could do it blindfolded. Just attach the coil to the bottom cap, gently slide the glass over the top and screw the top cap on. Since the top cap screws directly to the coil, make sure to align everything before tightening. That’s all there is to it.

When you want to treat yourself to a puff, just press the fire button five times to turn the battery on or off. Press and hold to heat the coil and vape on! To be on the safe side, make sure to turn the battery off when you’re carrying it in your pocket.

Smok Stick V8 battery is beyond the words great! Seriously, it puts to shame all other vape pens I’ve tried (and I’ve tried out plenty). This is a built-in battery that is charged directly with a USB cable. Most new MODs have switched to 18650 external batteries because they can deliver more consistent power (or they need two or even three to run properly) but the battery in Stick V8 kit works great all on its own.

Don’t think that you’re going to have to charge this every couple of hours. I vape a lot through the day and during my test drives of Smok Stick V8 I found that I really only need to charge it once a day. When it has a full charge it will go on and on. That’s thanks to its 3000 mAh capacity.

There’s only one button on the whole battery and that’s the fire button. That means that you won’t be able to adjust wattage but who really cares? If you’re a beginner vaper or an experienced on looking for a vape pen for on the go, this will do just fine. The wattage output is anywhere between 38 and 50 W when fully charged, which is great for coils that come with the tank. Keep in mind that the wattage will drop as your battery charge weakens. For optimal performance, don’t drain your battery too much and make sure to regularly charge it. A LED light under the fire button will start blinking when it’s time to give the battery some rest and plug it in.

Let’s move on to the Big Baby tank, the newest of Smok’s tanks in the TFV line. To make one thing clear right at the beginning - this is no baby! It’s more of a monster, both performance-wise and size-wise. So, the Big Baby pack a whopping 5ml of vape juice, rendering frequent refills completely obsolete. This is a feature that will be appreciated by both beginner and seasoned vapers. Fewer refills mean less time fiddling with the tank and fewer opportunities to break something. Those who are familiar with Smok tanks will notice that Big Baby is just an oversized version of the original Baby tank, with all the features of that great tank.

One of those features is the excellent top-fill system. To pour vape juice into this tank all you need to do is rotate the top cap counterclockwise and locate a small opening. Make sure not to get any vape juice into the central hole; that’s your chimney and pouring juice there results in gurgling, flooding, and, generally, a very unpleasant mouthful of vape juice. Slowly add juice in without overfilling, close the top cap, and that’s it - you’re done in less than 30 seconds.

Another great feature is the double bottom airflow. It’s fully adjustable, giving you an opportunity to tailor your vaping experience according to your preferences. There are two slots on each side of the bottom cap and you simply twist the cover to open or close them. If you’re looking for a cool, cloudy vape, keep the airflow open completely. For more flavor (or mouth to lung hits) make sure to close it down.

TFV Big Baby Tank is made of stainless steel and Pyrex glass so you know it’s made to last. It features a wide bore Delrin drip tip that might not be up your alley (it’s not up to mine) but you always have the option of switching it out for something else. I have only one problem with TFV Big Baby tank and that’s the fact that the glass is not protected in any way. Two small strips of metal running on the outside of it would make it that much harder to break, especially if you’re clumsy as I am and you’re dropping it all the time.

How Does the Smok Stick V8 Perform?

Well, in one word - beautifully!

Seriously, the performance of Smok Stick V8 Kit is up there with some of the best MODs I’ve tried out. I’ve been vaping for quite some time now and have to say that this is probably the best vape pen I’ve tried. Everything is spot on - the amount of vapor is great for a vape pen of this size and battery output and the flavor doesn’t get muffled out as you increase airflow (at least, not too much).

There’s a slight difference in performance in relation to the coils that you use. Obviously, the 0.15 ohm coil will give you more vapor and the 0.25 ohm coil is more geared toward flavor so adjust accordingly. However, I would give both of them a 5-star rating, hands down. The battery life is unbelievable and I’m still surprised when I make it through the day without plugging it in even once. Some of my 2-battery setups require me to swap batteries in the middle of the day - not this baby!
